Cheapest Airlines Flying from Lagos to Dubai

Airline Comparison Summary Table

Your choice of airline is the ultimate factor in reducing your Lagos to Dubai flight cost options. Several major airlines operate this route from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, offering vastly different trade-offs between price, transit speed, and comfort.

Flydubai

Flydubai operates as a prominent budget option for travelers heading to the UAE. While they offer competitive baseline pricing, passengers must remember that their standard economy tickets often charge separately for checked baggage and hot meals. If you travel light, this carrier can offer some of the most competitive options available.

Emirates

Emirates is the premier choice for luxury, comfort, and speed, offering direct flights from Lagos to Dubai. Flying with them means you get a generous baggage allowance, top-tier inflight entertainment, and zero layover stress. However, this convenience comes with a cost. Their ticket prices sit at the higher end of the spectrum, making them ideal for business travelers or those who prioritize speed over a strict budget.

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways regularly provides exceptional service with a brief layover at Hamad International Airport in Doha. They balance premium comfort with competitive promotional fares. If you catch one of their seasonal sales, you can enjoy an award-winning cabin experience at a price that rivals mid-tier carriers.

Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines is often the backbone of budget-friendly outbound travel from Nigeria. Operating through their efficient hub at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, they provide reliable connections and stable pricing. Their tickets usually include a robust two-piece baggage allowance, making them an excellent choice for merchants and traders carrying goods.

Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways connects Lagos to Dubai via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Their layover times can vary from quick two-hour turnarounds to longer stays, but their ticket pricing remains highly attractive for holidaymakers who want to keep costs reasonable without sacrificing quality service.

RwandAir

RwandAir has become a massive favorite for the cost-conscious Nigerian traveler. Flying through Kigali International Airport, they offer some of the lowest baseline fares on the market. Their planes are modern, their service is highly rated, and their layover durations are generally manageable, making them a top contender for the title of the cheapest airline to Dubai from West Africa.

Are There Direct Flights from Lagos to Dubai?

Yes. Emirates operates a direct, non-stop service between Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) and Dubai International Airport (DXB). The flight takes approximately 7 hours 45 minutes, making it the fastest way to travel between Lagos and Dubai.

However, if your goal is to find the cheapest flights from Lagos to Dubai, it is worth considering connecting flights. In many cases, airlines with layovers offer substantially lower fares than direct services.

Benefits of Direct Flights

Choosing a direct flight can make your trip much smoother, especially if you are travelling with family or carrying multiple bags.

Direct flight advantages:

• Shorter total travel time
• No risk of missed connections
• Less physical fatigue, especially for families with children
• Single baggage handling point from Lagos to destination

Cons of Direct Flights

• Usually more expensive than connecting routes
• Rigid fare flexibility during peak periods

Connecting route advantages:

• Often significantly cheaper, sometimes by ₦200,000 to ₦600,000 on a return trip
• More airline choices to compare
• Opportunities to extend a stopover in Doha, Nairobi, or Addis Ababa if you want a brief multi-city experience

For most first-time Dubai travelers or families, the direct Emirates route removes a lot of stress. For business travelers or budget-focused flyers comfortable with a longer journey, the connecting routes on Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, or RwandAir represent excellent value.

Cheapest Month to Fly from Lagos to Dubai

Timing your Lagos to Dubai travel correctly can save you a substantial amount. Prices on this route follow predictable seasonal patterns.

Low Season (Best for Cheap Fares)

May through September represents the lowest demand period for Dubai travel from Nigeria. The UAE summer months (June through August) are extremely hot, which keeps tourist numbers down. Temperatures in Dubai regularly exceed 40°C, and many attractions shift to indoor or evening schedules. If heat does not concern you, this is consistently the cheapest time to fly.

Typical savings vs. peak season: 15% to 30% off standard fares.

Shoulder Season (Moderate Prices)

October and April sit in the middle, offering decent deals before the holiday rush begins. October is particularly popular because Dubai's cooler season is just beginning, so fares start climbing. Book early in October if you want good value.

Peak Season (Highest Fares)

November through January and March through April (Easter) are the most expensive periods to fly. The Dubai Shopping Festival, which typically runs from December into January, drives massive demand from Nigerian shoppers and families. School holiday periods in Nigeria also push fares up sharply.

High-demand windows to avoid if you want cheap fares:

• Dubai Shopping Festival (December – January)
• Christmas and New Year peak (December 20 – January 5)
• Easter holiday weekend
• Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha (dates shift annually)

Best Time to Book Cheapest Flights from Lagos to Dubai

Knowing the cheapest month to travel is only half the equation. The other half is knowing when to actually press the book button.

Book 1 to 3 months before travel:

For most economy class travelers, booking one to three months before your intended departure date hits the sweet spot on this route. Airlines have released their inventory but have not yet entered the final pricing phase where fares climb as seats fill.

Book 3 to 6 months before travel:

For travel during peak periods (December, January, February), booking three to six months ahead is strongly recommended. You are more likely to find promotional fares, and you have access to the full seat inventory before demand compresses availability.

Last minute booking risks:

The Lagos to Dubai route does occasionally see last-minute fare drops when airlines have unsold seats, but this is not a strategy to rely on. For a busy international route, last-minute fares are more often punishingly expensive. You could end up paying two to three times more than someone who booked two months earlier.

Pro Tip: Booking on a Sunday has also been shown to produce lower fares on this route, with data suggesting Sunday bookings cost between 6% and 13% less than bookings made on a Friday.

How to Find Cheap Flights to Dubai from Lagos

Implementing a few deliberate habits can change how much you spend on international travel. Here are the most practical steps to help you consistently find the cheapest flights from Lagos to Dubai.

Book Early

This is the single most reliable strategy for anyone looking for the cheapest flights from Lagos to Dubai. Two to three months of lead time for regular travel, and four to six months for peak season travel, consistently yields the best fares.

Compare Multiple Airlines

Do not assume that one airline is always cheapest. On any given week, the pricing leader among Turkish Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, and Kenya Airways can change. Using flight comparison tools and checking each airline individually before booking helps. For help navigating this process, our guide on how to compare flight prices like a pro in Nigeria is a practical starting point.

Travel Midweek

Departing on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday tends to produce lower fares than weekend departures. The difference may not always be massive, but on a long-haul route like Lagos to Dubai, it can translate to ₦50,000 – ₦200,000 in savings.

Use Flexible Dates

If your travel window is flexible by even three to five days, using date flexibility tools on flight search platforms can reveal significant price gaps between adjacent dates.

Watch for Airline Promotions

Airlines periodically run promotional fares on this route to stimulate demand in slower periods. Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar Airways have all run notable Lagos to Dubai promotions. Following airline channels helps you catch these windows. Our guide on secrets airlines don't tell Nigerian travelers has more on this.

Work With Trusted Travel Agencies

Established agencies like TBILS have access to private consolidator fares and wholesale ticket blocks that are not visible to the general public. Lean on professional expertise to find special avenues for savings.

Dubai Visa and Flight Cost from Nigeria

Every Nigerian traveler to Dubai needs a UAE visa before boarding the plane. This is a non-negotiable requirement, as Nigerians do not have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to the UAE.

The visa process has become more structured following the reinstatement of UAE visas for Nigerians. The Document Verification Number (DVN) is now a required step before submitting your application. Processing typically takes five to six working days for a standard application, so do not leave this until the last minute.

Key Requirements for Your Dubai Visa Application

• Valid Nigerian passport (minimum six months' validity from entry date)
• Bank statement showing adequate financial standing (a minimum balance of $10,000 for six months is often cited as the benchmark)
• Completed visa application form
• Recent passport photograph

When planning your trip budget, always factor in the visa cost alongside your flight cost. A 30-day single-entry visa adds approximately $135 to $270 to your travel expenses depending on the platform you use.

A combined flight-plus-visa package through a reliable travel agency like TBILS can simplify this entire process and ensure your application is submitted correctly the first time.

Common Mistakes That Cost You More When Booking Cheap Lagos to Dubai Flights

After working with Nigerian travelers planning Dubai trips, certain patterns come up again and again when people end up overpaying.

• Booking too late. The most expensive fares are usually the last ones available. Waiting until two weeks before departure on this route rarely ends well. As seat availability shrinks, airlines automatically push remaining tickets into their highest price tiers.
• Traveling during peak periods without early preparation. December and January are expensive months to fly from Lagos to Dubai. Travelers who understand this but still book late during these months pay a steep penalty.
• Ignoring connecting flight options. Many Nigerian travelers have a strong preference for direct flights, which is understandable. But completely ruling out connecting flights means ruling out fares that are often $200 to $500 cheaper per trip. On a family trip for four, that difference is enormous.
• Not comparing airlines. Checking only one or two airlines and booking without comparison is one of the most expensive habits in travel. The spread between the cheapest and most expensive option for the same dates can exceed ₦400,000 on a return ticket.
• Waiting indefinitely for prices to drop. There is a point were waiting for a better price actually causes you to miss the optimal booking window. Fares on popular routes like Lagos to Dubai tend to increase as the departure date approaches and seats fill. Read our guide on one way vs round trip flights: which is cheaper from Nigeria? for additional perspective on pricing patterns.
• Ignoring Baggage Policies: A ticket might look incredibly cheap at first glance, but if it only allows a small carry-on bag, you will face heavy fees at the airport counter when checking your luggage. Always calculate the cost of a ticket inclusive of its baggage allowance.
• Misunderstanding Ticket Flexibility: Buying the absolute cheapest non-refundable, non-changeable ticket tier can backfire if your plans change. If your visa is delayed, you could lose the entire value of the ticket. Sometimes paying a minor premium for a semi-flexible ticket is the smarter economic choice. For more insight into choosing fare types, read our analysis on one way vs round trip flights to understand which structure saves you more money in the long run.
• Not using a travel expert. Particularly for first-time Dubai travelers or those traveling with families, the DIY approach to flight booking sometimes costs more in time, stress, and suboptimal fares than working with a specialist would.

Conclusion

Finding the cheapest flights from Lagos to Dubai requires balancing your preferences for travel time, airline choice, and booking windows. While direct flights offer unmatched comfort and speed, embracing an indirect flight with an African or regional carrier remains the best way to keep your expenses low.

Remember to monitor prices early, maintain flexibility with your calendar, and avoid peak holiday crowds whenever possible.
