Departure is from the domestic side of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. At the other end, Port Harcourt International Airport is at Omagwa, well outside the city itself — roughly an hour's drive north of Port Harcourt proper, and longer in bad weather or heavy traffic. This catches a lot of first-time visitors out, so build the road transfer into your plans rather than treating landing time as arrival time. Arrange your pickup in advance; it is not a route where you want to be negotiating transport on arrival after dark.

Flight times and daily schedule

This is a business corridor above all else, driven by the oil and gas industry, and the schedule reflects it. Departures cluster in the early morning and late afternoon to suit a working day at either end, with a thinner mid-day period that is usually the cheapest time to travel. Monday and Friday are the peak days. Flights operate through the year, but the rainy season, which runs roughly from April to October and is heavy in the Niger Delta, brings a higher chance of weather delays.

Getting to the airport

In Lagos, allow well over the map estimate — traffic to Ikeja is the usual reason people miss domestic departures, and two hours is not excessive during peak periods. On the Port Harcourt end, the drive from Omagwa into the city takes around an hour in normal conditions and considerably longer during heavy rain, when parts of the route can flood. If you have a meeting scheduled, do not plan it immediately after your landing time.
