You leave from the domestic side of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos and arrive at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, the principal airport of northern Nigeria. Kano is unusual among Nigerian domestic destinations in that it handles substantial international and pilgrimage traffic alongside domestic flights, particularly during the Hajj season, when the airport operates dedicated pilgrim services. The airport is close to the city, so the transfer at the Kano end is short and simple compared with somewhere like Port Harcourt.

Flight times and daily schedule

Kano has fewer daily frequencies than the Lagos–Abuja or Lagos–Port Harcourt corridors, which changes how you should book. With fewer seats in the market, a single sold-out flight has a much bigger effect on price, and last-minute travel is both expensive and sometimes simply unavailable. The sector itself is longer than the southern domestic routes, so expect a noticeably longer time in the air than a Lagos–Enugu hop.

Getting to the airport

The Lagos end carries the usual warning: leave early, because traffic to Ikeja is unpredictable and is the most common cause of missed domestic flights. Kano is far more forgiving — the airport is close to the city and the transfer is short. One genuinely useful local consideration is the harmattan season, roughly December to February, when dust carried south on the wind can reduce visibility significantly in northern Nigeria and occasionally causes delays or diversions. If you are travelling in that window, an earlier flight leaves more room to absorb a disruption.
